It's cold days like today, in NYC, that I REALLY miss the West Coast. I think New York is the greatest city in the world but the weather is intense, especially for a California girl. When my face is frozen stiff, the only thing that keeps my spirits high is winter fashion.

Make your basic outfit POP by adding two dynamic staples; a pair of thigh-high boots and/or a fur coat. I like to wear them together but you can do one or the other to make a big statement with a simple look. I usually just wear a plain pair of skinnies and a plain shirt or blouse with my boots or jacket.

The boots are really great because you can wear them all year. I bought an amazing skirt and sweater that I can't wait to pair with my thigh-highs. When it gets a bit warmer, I am going to be rocking those bad boys with every dress / skirt / shorts I can get away with. Spring is a great time to mix and match warm and cold pieces.

As for the fur coats, this is the BEST time to shop for them because more temperate regions are already seeing weather that is too warm for fur. That means, SALES SALES SALES. There is no time like the present to stock up on trends for next winter, especially while it's still cool enough to wear them.
