Winter weather can be super taxing on your skin. I get SO dry and my lips get chapped really easily if I am not hydrating properly. I get this feeling like I'm a dried up, old raisin and I feel like I look 100 years old. Obviously, I am my biggest critic but it’s important to be happy in your own skin. Pun intended! My face is so thirsty during the cold months; even the strongest creams won’t do the trick.

I went on a serious mission to try out some high rated products. The first thing that came to my mind was, ‘this is going to be expensive’. WRONG! Most skin products have a money back guarantee or can be returned for store credit. People have allergic reactions ALL THE TIME. So, it’s relatively easy to return items that don’t mesh well with you. Yes, it is annoying to deal with the return process but it’s a lot better than going through the motions of buying creams and serums that don’t work, that get pushed to the back of your medicine cabinet. Now you’re just wasting money!

But don’t worry, I did some of the heavy lifting and found two products I can’t live without right now.

Hydration is an important factor in keeping your skin looking healthy while looking young and supple. I am always looking for the next best regimen to prevent the signs of aging. I was at my med spa during the summer and my face was a bit flakey from being in the dry heat. My doctor recommended anything with Hyaluronic acid in it. The name made me super nervous, I totally pictured scientists wearing goggles and protective gloves, trying not to burn themselves on this acid potion. It’s really not the case at all. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring component in the body. It’s ability to retain high levels of moisture keep the skin looking smooth and plump. It also improves the structure of the skin to keep it looking ageless. When your skin is really hydrated, fine lines aren’t as noticeable and it slows the formation of new lines. I tried a Peter Thomas Roth hydrating serum that has 75% hyaluronic acid in it. The serum alone made huge difference! You can certainly use it alone but it works the best in conjunction with a moisturizer. I want all the help I can get!

When it comes to moisturizers, I have been using dry oils like coconut or argan oil instead of creams for quite a while now. Creams just don’t do it for me anymore and they can be SOOOOOO expensive. I use oil products that are meant for the face. The same kind of argan oil you would use on your hair is definitely not the same consistency as the one you would want to put on your face. For some people, it might work fine. For me, the wrong mix can send me on a breakout worse than a hormonal teenager. What’s worse is that, even in this weather, those oils aren’t enough. I found a product by Peter Thomas Roth that is 100% squalane. This oil makes my life complete.

Squalane is also a naturally occurring component in the body. It helps generate strong cells in the skin’s barrier to protect it from toxins and delay the signs of aging. Amongst many other benefits, it also aids in the skin’s hydration. My favorite part is how quickly it gets absorbed into the skin, if you don’t rub it in fast enough it will just dry on it’s own. Because of this, you’ll never have that oily feeling on your face.

Combing the two products on my face made a difference the same day. I noticed my smoother complexion immediately and the PH balance of my skin has been on point for weeks. Just to give you some perspective, my boyfriends birthday week was crazier than I anticipated. There was a party every night for 5 days that I was expected to attend. Under normal circumstances, I would have looked like a mummified zombie after night one. Shockingly, I actually received compliments about how amazing my skin looked on nights 2 and 3 so I HAD to share this ASAP. Although I feel like I am completely dying from the inside out right now, you wouldn’t be able to tell it in my face!
