TGIF! What a week it's been, getting back into the groove of things at home. I miss New York so much! It is such a magical place. I never want to leave when I'm there and when I get home I stare at my calendar for a week figuring out the soonest time I can go back! The torture!! haha!

I had so much fun in the city; I bought these INSANE boots from my favorite boutique, LF. I happen to live down the street from an LF in La Jolla but I always like to see if there are different items at the other locations. I stumbled upon these precious Rachel Zoe booties that I had to get. I just could not leave NY without them.

Before I hopped on my plane back to the west coast I grabbed a bite at this cute little place in Soho, (it's my favorite area in the city, if you haven't noticed) called The Dutch. I was so sad to leave; I tried to reschedule my flight on my way to breakfast. Anyway, I stopped in to this great little restaurant and indulged in some mouth watering pastries! I am not sure what I ate but all I know is, these babies were covered in chocolate sauce. Simply perfect for my New York farewell.

One of my daily activities while I was in NYC was stopping by this place in East Village, Brodo. They make the most AMAZING bone broth. I visited the little street side window every morning in the 30 degree weather to get my warm and tasty fix. If you aren't familiar with the bone broth craze I suggest you jump on board!

A friend of mine got me thinking about bone broth a few months back. Obviously, I have heard of broth before (duh! I eat soup like the rest of the world) but I was unfamiliar with the idea of incorporating bone broth into my diet regularly. To be honest, it sounded silly to me. However, I am super into health and wellness so I was intrigued. Turns out, bone broth is one of the most nourishing substances you can put in your body! FYI I'm not talking about gross ass bouillon cubes or that crap in the canned foods isle at the grocery store. I started doing my research and I wish I had known about this years ago! This stuff is the real deal; boosting gut health, working as an anti-inflammatory and providing nutrients such as magnesium (obsessed), potassium, calcium, amino acids, and collagen.

I'd also like to add, it is an insanely effective hangover remedy. "When I was in New York, I went to bed early and drank no alcohol" - said no one ever. BB was a major life saver from the casual glass of wine with dinner that turned into champagne, margaritas, tequila shots maybe even some fireball shots. ouch!

What's so great about this magic elixir? Let me tell you about it...

Remember that Lana Del Rey song from the Great Gatsby soundtrack with the lyric, "Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful"?
Here is the answer: drink your bone broth and you won't be asking that question anymore!

There are plenty of reasons to rave about BB but my favorite is the beauty benefit. BB is high in gelatin and collagen, it's like you are sipping on a savory youth serum. Collagen is crucial for healthy hair, nails and a glowing complexion. When we get older the body stops producing as much collagen, which leads to the visible signs of aging. Anything that can prolong the process of regular botox injections is at the top of my priority list. Let's put it this way, I am not going to be one of those people who "age gracefully". Not happening. Collagen is also important for the integrity of the joints, tendons and ligaments. Looks like broth is the answer to staying young, sexy... and limber.

Belly full of jelly never sounded so good!

BB is also high in gelatin. Gelatin helps improve gastrointestinal health by repairing damage to the lining of your gut. Intestinal health is sooooo important. Here's a little food for thought (pun intended); How can you expect to stay healthy and maintain a healthy weight if your body isn't functioning properly? Most people struggling with their weight aren't taking care of the one thing that is responsible for managing it. You've got to work from the inside out.

On the topic of weight management; BB is high in the amino acid glycine, which assists in cleansing the liver. If you have read any of my recipe or lifestyle posts, you are familiar with how serious I am about liver health. Among other vital functions, the liver is responsible for the way fats are distributed by the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. When the liver isn't working properly, it begins to recirculate excess toxins and fats instead of flushing them out, which can ultimately lead to weight gain. Glycine helps to detoxify the liver and prevent the recirculation of unwanted fats and toxins. If not for the reason that is helps you stay thin, you should be taking care of your liver anyway. You can't live without it, seriously.

Cheers to bone broth!
